Capitalising on a Climate of Change
What is the purpose of the 2008 Feature: “Capitalising on a Climate of Change?”
The committee has identified that the most critical issue for farmers and rural communities in present times is the effects Climate Change is having on primary production. Consequently, this feature is planned with the aim of promoting awareness; a greater understanding of the issues and to educate patrons on just how to tackle this serious challenge to our livelihoods and lifestyles.
Feature Structure
Professor John Martin, Director, Centre for Sustainable Regional Communities, LaTrobe University, Bendigo together with his faculty and students are enthusiastically assisting with the planning and staging of this feature to be known as ‘Capitalising on a Climate of Change’. It is proposed that the ‘walk through’ feature will be set up to focus on the following four parameters:
- Energy / CO2 Measurement
- Energy efficiency
- Green & renewable energy systems
- Carbon offsets / trading
Due to the amount of interest already generated and the enormous amount of ‘mind blowing’ information available, it is envisaged that this topic will be an ongoing feature for a number of years and will continue until farmers and the wider community comes to terms with the need to introduce some changes to address the issue of carbon emissions.
Keynote Speaker
Rob Gell, well known television weather presenter will be speaking in the General Interest Auditorium at 9.30am on Thursday 8th October.
