Extensive Shearing Shed Program
EXTENSIVE SHEARING
SHED PROGRAM Action gets underway with the shearing at 9.30 and 10.45 in
the morning and 1.30 and 2.45 in the afternoon. In addition there is an intensive daily schedule of
information of vital interest for sheep and wool producers. Some of the features will include a presentation on “What’s
Killing Our Lambs” by the DPI on each of the three days at 11 am, a
presentation on the AuctionsPlus livestock markets reporting services and the Australian
Wool Exchange Wool Pack Trials. AWAX is reviewing the standard for the manufacture of
Australian wool packs, particularly since a problem of over-width loads has led
to prosecutions in NSW where the rules state that a legal load does not exceed
2.5 metres in width. AWEX has been undertaking trials with the aim of quantifying
the contributing factors and evaluating whether modifications to the wool pack
can aid to resolve the problem. AWEX is completing a proving trial to evaluate any changes
to wool pack design and manufacture with any recommendations on the pack
standard with information to be released at presentations on two occasions on
each day at Elmore. In addition there will be a daily presentation by Shearer
Woolhandler Training Inc. on best practices for shearing, wool handling and
pressing with an emphasis on teamwork and technical tips for the best results
in each area of the woolshed. As always there will be an emphasis on action as well as
information so that the Shearing Shed will be an important port of call for all
sheep and wool producers.
