Composting Workshops
The extensive flooding and resulting damage to huge amounts of fodder has been the catalyst for the logical move to on-farm composting. With the combination of farm derived resources such as the spoilt hay, silage and straw, calf bedding material plus manures and effluent as key ingredients to making quality compost, it serves the dual purpose of converting these waste streams into a highly valuable addition to your farm business. No longer do you need to think about putting a match to the fodder, or wonder what to do with the mounting pile of manure and bedding material or overflowing effluent!
The Elmore Field Days is supporting the initiative already undertaken by the DPI, Seymour Rural Equipment, Camperdown Compost Company, AgriSolutions and various individual host farmers to further provide information about the remarkable value and benefits of on-farm composting.
Your visit to Site 168 will be rewarded with learning how compost will reduce your farm fertiliser costs, how year round grass quality and growth increases, and how improved soil health will positively affect herd health, including cow fertility rates. You will also have the opportunity to see microbes under the microscope as they go about their business of decomposition and reproduction so essential to well functioning agricultural systems.
The attachment outlines the proposed schedule for the 3 days and we welcome your visit so you can hear and see for yourself what all the fuss is about with compost!
Come and spend some time with us to find out what is possible from out of the gloom of the floods and ongoing farm wastes - and how your farm operating costs can be significantly reduced at the same time!
Best regards,
Gerhard Grasser,
AgriSolutions Pty Ltd
