Committee Profile - Brendan Shotton

What is your job? Counter Sales - AWM

Current role at Field Days:

Traffic Control Assistant Chairman

As the Traffic Control Assistant Chairman I control the traffic inside the grounds during the Field Days. This is making sure that patrons are safe when on site and there aren’t any cars or trucks that are not supposed to be there.

How many years have you been on the committee?

I joined the committee in 2015.

Why did you join the Committee?

Since I was young I’ve enjoyed attending the Elmore Field Days and always wanted to join once I got old enough. So that I could assist in helping the event continue well into the future and keep the legacy of the Field Days alive.

What is your favourite part of the Field Days?

It would have to be seeing the site fill up the weeks before hand. Bit by bit the site becomes alive and it hits you just how much planning and how many people are involved in creating this event. I also enjoy seeing the community get together to support the event.

How do you enjoy spending your spare time?

I enjoy collecting old pieces of history, mainly petrol bowsers and other pieces of service station memorabilia. Along with restoring vintage signs from petrol/service stations. I also enjoy music and road-trips.

Why do you think it is important to get young people to join the committee?

The Field Days has been running for more than 50 years and without a committee there can’t be the Elmore Field Days. And I just can’t imagine it not being here, that’s why it is important to get new people to join the committee so that the organisation can continue and grow for another 50 years.
