Committee Profile - Bruce McKenzie
What is your job? Farmer
Current role at Field Days?
Life Governor & Committee Member
I also assist with the water delivery service during the field days as well as help out where I can.
Notable/favourite roles at the Field Days in the past:
I’ve had a lot of roles but I was involved with the Static Display Committee early on, Billy Duncan was the secretary in those days, and we would meet at his house. We would then meet at George Holmberg’s who was the President, before moving to an office where IGA liquor is now located.
How many years have you been on the committee / involved in the Field Days for?
I’ve been involved with the Field Days from the beginning, my brother Ivan would park cars and I would wag school to park cars also. I joined the committee at 18 so that’s about 55 years ago.
Why did you join the Committee?
I liked being involved, I would do security at night and then be at the event each day so I didn’t get much sleep, but I enjoyed it. The men involved with the Field Days convinced me to join.
What is your favourite part of the Field Days?
I like talking to and catching up with all the exhibitors that have been around for a long time. I also still enjoy being involved and doing what I can to help.
How do you enjoy spending your spare time?
I enjoy traveling when I can, heading over to visit my daughter in Perth and family in Queensland.
