Committee Profile - Darren Trewick

What is your job? Farmer

Current role at field days:

Life Governor, Committee Member and Service Committee Chair

Notable/favourite roles at the field days in the past:

My favourite role was President by far.  I loved doing this job and in my opinion the committee did a lot of really good things while I was President. I had a great team of people around too.

They have been some interesting years so far, hopefully continues to be this great for many more years.

How many years have you been on the committee?

I have been on the committee since I was 17 and I am now 53, so 36 years!

Why did you join the committee?

My parents, Ron and Lorraine, have always been heavily involved in the field days, so was pulled along with them and went and annoyed exhibitors from a young age.  My dad brought me along onto the committee.

I was helping out at the field days many years before I actually joined the committee.  I used to help park cars, security and anything else that needed doing while Dad was out there.  I remember parking cars on the old site when I was a young whipper snipper! I started this at 12, it was a bit of fun and it wasn’t quite as regimented as it is today.  I also remember using the forklift and unloading trucks at 16 and driving the old O'Sullivans bedford trucks.

I have only missed 2 field days.  The field days started in 1964 and I was born in 1966.

What is your favourite part of the field days?

Working as a volunteer, it is a fantastic organisation to be part of. I have also enjoyed the relationships I have formed with committee and exhibitors and office staff.

I enjoy the whole process; it works pretty well. I really enjoy being involved in all community things.

How do you enjoy spending your spare time?

I enjoy the local football and being involved in the club. Getting out on the waterski’s, although I don’t do this as much as I would like too. And I enjoy spending time with the family.
