What is your job? Farmer
Current role at Field Days:
Committee Member
I am also on the Budget Committee, Farm Committee and Service Committee. I like being involved in events all year round, especially the equestrian events.
Notable/favourite roles at the Field Days in the past:
I always say, it doesn’t matter what job you are doing as long as it’s for the community.
I’ve been on most sub committees at the field days. Waste Management, Traffic, Treasury, Parcel Pick Up.
I really enjoyed being Treasurer and being able to assist with getting the office mainstreamed to where it is today – not just at the field days but year-round.
I remember the first couple of years we did waste management at the new site and the bins used to be 44 gallon drums, we eventually upgraded to wheelie bins.
How many years have you been on the committee / involved in the Field Days for?
I was involved with the Field Days before I joined, helping in various roles, waste management, traffic etc. I worked away in Mineral Exploration during the Field Days most years, but I officially joined the committee when I moved home to work full time on the farm.
Why did you join the Committee?
My dad and uncles were always involved with the field days. I love being apart of the community, not only with the Field days but also the swimming pool and various other things.
I remember reading a quote from George Holmberg years ago, ‘You either live in your community or you live off your community.’ I think these are great words to live by.
What is your favourite part of the Field Days?:
Working with a good bunch of blokes, staff and exhibitors. Theres always a lot of support and friendship in the Field Days group. Its also good catching up with the exhibitors each year and having a yarn.
I love working with the horse events during the year. I was involved in this when we first started having horse events and it is great to see the work we put in to getting the arenas up to scratch and working with the horse clubs to ensure that what they need is at the venue. On weekend events I like coming out and checking out the different equestrian events we have and assisting with anything they need, plus they always have a good coffee van on site!
How do you enjoy spending your spare time?:
I am pretty fortunate to have a job I like doing and is also my hobby! I enjoy tinkering around the farm. I also used to enjoy riding motorbikes in my younger days.
