Committee Profile - George Holmberg

George Holmberg

The title of a "founding father of the elmore field days" sits squarely on George Holmberg's shoulders.

George has farmed in the Elmore district for many years, with the family connections originating in the bendigo gold mining boom of the 1860s.

In 1964 George drove across to Longerenong to visit the Wimmera field days, then only in its second year.

After seeing the success of those field days, George and several other locals announced that Elmore should have their own field days, and a public meeting was held to get things going, and the rest is history

"I am quite delighted with the way that the field days have developed since the first tentative event, but I think they have really helped to put Elmore on the map".

George was the president until 1969, and has continued to attend meetings, loving to sit back and watch the field days that he was instrumental in organising, grow into a key local event!
